It seems that Beer has been on everyone’s lips for the past few months. In September we had National Braai Day, and where there is braai there is beer. In that same month Yuppiechef announced that they were in bed with The League of Beers and sang the praises for craft beer, all of which – even as a n0n-drinker – I wholly agree with (read their article here).
Then there was October, and with that came the Oktober Bierfest. Which, if this was an investigative journalism piece, I would tell you why the Cape Town Bierfest was held in early November.
I passed the location of the Cape Town Bierfest event a number of times that weekend (Newlands Brewery is situated almost exactly half way between my house and my parent’s house). Hearing the music and festivities, I’ll admit to having had that feeling that the whole world was celebrating and I was missing out on it… but then I remembered that something even better was happening towards the end of November and cheered up.
The event that I am looking forward to is happening this very weekend (22 to 24 November 2013) at Hamilton’s Rugby Club. This weekend is the fourth annual Cape Town Festival of Beer – a showcase of over 200 local and international beers. Instead of being about glugging down copious amounts of beer and losing your car for close on a month (this actually happened recently in Germany, according to my local radio station), the event is a celebration of brewing heritage and craft. There will also be guided beer tours and beer and food pairing demonstrations. The Cape Town Festival of Beer is a fun family outing, with professionals to watch over the kids while mom and dad enjoy the day and live rugby.
I’m really excited to learn more about our local craft brewers at this event. I’m also excited to offer you a chance to win a double ticket to the event through The Food Crew. To win, go on over to the Cape Town Festival of Beer’s exhibitor page and comment on this post which beer you’d most like to try. The competition closes on Wednesday 20 November 2013 at 3pm, the winner will be notified via email with collection details, the prize is solely two tickets to the event, valid for Friday or Sunday. If you aren’t lucky enough to win your tickets, they are available on www.webtickets.co.za – I hope to see you there!
